Kamal Haasan Hails Shah Rukh Khan’s Generous Act : Worked for Free in “Hey Ram”

Legendary actor Kamal Haasan reveals Shah Rukh Khan didn’t charge for his role in Hey Ram, praising his passion for cinema.

At the trailer launch of his upcoming film Hindustani 2, Kamal showered praise on Shah Rukh Khan for his dedication to the craft. Kamal shared that Khan didn’t accept any payment for his role in the 2000 bilingual film Hey Ram, which Kamal Haasan wrote, directed, produced, and starred in alongside Khan.

Kamal emphasized that titles like “star” or “superstar” become secondary when working on a film. He described their collaboration as one between friends who share a mutual respect for art. “We are all just people,” he stated.

Kamal expressed his deep appreciation for Khan’s gesture, calling him a “connoisseur of art and a good actor.” He said, “That cannot be done by a superstar. That can be done only by a fan… I’m ever thankful to him.”

Kamal also spoke about his unfulfilled dream of collaborating with the late legendary actor Dilip Kumar. Kamal Haasan envisioned Dilip Kumar playing the lead role in the Hindi remake of his 1992 Tamil film Thevar Magan. Unfortunately, Dilip Kumar had retired from acting by the time Kamal Haasan approached him.

Kamal revealed his admiration for Dilip Kumar , stating he was a “great fan and a student.” He shared a heartwarming anecdote about secretly visiting Dilip Kumar on his birthday to pay his respects.

Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Hindustani 2: Zero Tolerance is the sequel to his 1996 blockbuster Indian. Directed by S. Shankar, the film is set for release on July 12th, 2024, and stars Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh alongside Kamal Haasan.
