Speaking to ANI, Junaid Khan expressed his gratitude for the warm response: “I’m very grateful for the by and large positive response that ‘Maharaj’ has received. It’s quite satisfying; all’s well that ends well, I guess.”
He elaborated on his initial draw to the project: “The script instantly appealed to me when Sid and Adi sir approached me. I truly liked Sid sir’s vision, and the Yash Raj banner is legendary. So, taking on this project was an easy decision.”
Junaid Khan revealed his father’s reaction to the film: “He normally lets us pursue our own creative choices. But when we specifically seek advice, he offers it. He saw the film a few months ago and really liked it.”
The film’s release faced a brief hurdle with a temporary stay order from the Gujarat High Court. However, the order was lifted on Friday, allowing the movie to hit the screens. Yash Raj Films expressed their gratitude to the judiciary in a statement.
“‘Maharaj’ celebrates one of India’s most important social reformers, Karsandas Mulji,” the statement read. “Yash Raj Films has a long-standing tradition of championing India’s stories, its people, and its heritage.”
Directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment, “Maharaj” is a compelling retelling of the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case. Junaid Khan takes the lead alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Shalini Pandey, with a special appearance by Sharvari.
