The Tamil film industry is struggling this year. Big budget movies like Lal Salaam and Captain Miller haven’t impressed audiences. Even established stars like Vijay haven’t delivered a major hit (though his re-release Ghilli found some success). To stay afloat, theaters have relied on films from other languages and Hollywood.
The industry desperately needs a hit, and all eyes are on Indian 2. Kamal Haasan’s last film Vikram smashed box office records, and Indian 2, a sequel with an even bigger cast and established franchise, is expected to do even better. Opening day collections of 75-80 crores worldwide and a first-weekend total of 180-200 crores are anticipated. Anything less will be a disappointment.
Indian 2 brings back Haasan in his iconic role of Senapathy after nearly three decades. Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Kajal Aggarwal join the cast. The film hits theaters worldwide on July 12th.
