Hrithik Roshan on Lakshya: “The Role Mirrored My Own Search for Identity”

Hrithik Roshan, the lead actor in the 2004 film Lakshya, recently spoke about the movie’s impact on his career as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Lakshya also starred Preity Zinta and was a critical and commercial success.

Roshan considers Lakshya a defining moment in his acting journey. He revealed that director Farhan Akhtar cast him at a time when he himself was searching for his own identity. This personal quest for purpose resonated with the character of Karan Shergill, a young man who finds his calling in the Indian Army.

Roshan further explained that he deeply connected with Karan’s journey of self-discovery. The character’s naivety, anger, and confusion about his life mirrored Roshan’s own experiences at that time. He didn’t need to put on an act; the character simply came naturally to him.

The actor also praised Farhan Akhtar’s guidance during the challenging shoot. Filming took place in the harsh conditions of Ladakh’s mountainous terrain, with extremely low temperatures. Roshan highlighted that working with Farhan was a turning point because for the first time, a director instructed him to ignore the camera. This allowed Roshan to fully embody the character and deliver a more natural performance.
