Hollywood star Will Smith is in talks to lead a new sci-fi thriller titled “Resistor” for Sony Pictures. This comes fresh off the box office win of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”
Based on the bestselling novel “Influx” by Daniel Suarez, “Resistor” dives into a dystopian world. The government controls innovation through a secret agency that imprisons inventors and steals their creations. Specific plot details are under wraps, but it promises a suspenseful story.
The project is in early stages with a strong team behind it. Screenwriters Zak Olkewicz (“Bullet Train”) and Eric Singer (“Top Gun: Maverick”) crafted the script. Production includes Escape Artists (who collaborated with Smith on past hits) and Smith’s own Westbrook company.
This follows Smith’s impressive comeback with “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” The action-comedy sequel surpassed $100 million domestically within 10 days, proving his box office draw is alive and well.
